Ask Partially AI Assistant

Ask Partially

Ask Partially is an AI assistant built into the merchant portal. You chat with it in plain English to get answers about your account, pull reports, look up individual records, and take actions on your payment plans — without clicking through the portal or writing any SQL.

It always works on behalf of your own account. Every answer and action is scoped to your merchant data; the assistant can never see or touch another merchant's data.

Accessing the assistant

Ask Partially appears as a chat button in the corner of the merchant portal. Click it to open the chat panel, type a question or request, and press send. You can expand the panel for a larger view, and start a new conversation at any time with New conversation.

The assistant is available once your account has opened its first payment plan — until then, the onboarding assistant is shown instead. It is also aware of the page you are on: if you're viewing a specific plan, customer, or offer, you can say things like "cancel this plan" or "show me this customer's payments" and it will understand which record you mean.

Who can use it

  • The primary account owner always has access.
  • Team / support users must be granted access explicitly. Go to Settings → Users, edit the user, and enable Ask Partially – full access to the AI assistant. This permission is off by default, so newly added users start with no assistant access.

Note that Ask Partially access is all-or-nothing and is independent of a user's other permissions. A user granted this permission can view all merchant data and take actions through the assistant — send plan requests, reschedule, cancel plans, create customers, issue refunds — regardless of their other, more granular permission settings. Only grant it to users you trust with full account access.

What you can ask

Behind the scenes, Ask Partially routes your request to the right specialist:

  • Reporting — flexible analytics, trends, totals, counts, and filtered lists across your plans, payments, customers, offers, refunds, and disputes.
  • Record lookups — details for a specific plan, customer, payment, offer, dispute, or refund, with one-click links back to the portal.
  • Actions — operational changes such as sending plan requests, sending reschedule offers, cancelling plans, creating customers, and issuing refunds.
  • Support — "how do I…" and "what does X mean" questions, answered from Partially's own documentation.

You don't need to pick a specialist — just ask naturally and the assistant decides.

Example queries

Reporting (analytics, trends, aggregates):

  • "How much did I collect last month?"
  • "Show me my past-due plans."
  • "What's my total outstanding balance across all active plans?"
  • "Which customers have the highest remaining balances?"
  • "Compare revenue this quarter to last quarter."
  • "Export all payments from June to CSV." (reporting results can be exported to a downloadable CSV)

Record lookups (a specific, known object):

  • "Show me the details for plan #1043."
  • "What payments has Jane Doe made?"
  • "Give me details on the two plans you just listed."
  • "Open the offer for this customer." (when viewing a customer page)

Actions (making changes):

  • "Send a reschedule offer for this plan."
  • "Cancel plan #1043." (the assistant confirms the customer and remaining balance first)
  • "Create a new customer for john@example.com."
  • "Refund the last payment on this plan."

Support (documentation and how-to):

  • "How do I set up a Shopify custom app connection?"
  • "What does a reschedule fee program do?"
  • "How are checkout fees calculated?"

Limitations

  • Monthly query allowance. Each account gets a set number of queries per month (one query = one message the assistant answers). When you reach the limit, you'll be asked to wait until the allowance resets at the start of the next calendar month, or to upgrade for a higher limit. Usage is metered per calendar month and resets automatically.
  • Reporting data may lag by a few seconds. Analytics run against a reporting copy of your data, which can trail live activity by seconds. When a result is time-sensitive, the assistant will note the "as of" time.
  • Confirmation on risky actions. Before bulk changes or destructive actions (like cancelling a plan), the assistant summarizes what will happen and waits for your explicit approval. Single, clearly specified, low-risk changes may proceed directly — the assistant always reports exactly what it did.
  • Your data only. The assistant cannot access other merchants' accounts, and it treats the contents of your records (customer names, notes, addresses) as data, never as instructions — so it won't act on directions hidden inside a record.
  • Not a replacement for the API. For programmatic or high-volume automation, use the Partially API or the available integrations rather than the chat assistant.

Pricing (upcoming paid plan)

Ask Partially is a paid feature, billed per query. Accounts currently include a monthly allowance of queries at no additional charge, so you can try the assistant and use it for everyday questions within that allowance.

A paid plan is coming that raises the monthly limit for merchants who want to use the assistant more heavily. Until then, once you hit the included monthly allowance you can either wait for it to reset at the start of the next month or contact support about lifting your limit. Your current usage against the monthly allowance is shown in the chat panel.
