Creating a Payment Plan Manually
Creating a Payment Plan Manually
You can manually create a payment plan for any customer at any time — you don't need a connected e-commerce integration. This is useful for service businesses, dental practices, or any situation where you're working directly with a customer.
Getting started
There are 2 ways to send your customers payment plans:
- With the integration tool of your offer (easiest) — lets you:
- Generate URLs to paste into an email, text, or social media messaging.
- Generate QR codes.
- From the Payment Plans section of your account — lets you:
- Email plans directly to the customer from within your Partially account.
- Open plans on the customer's behalf from within your Partially account.
1: Sending plans with the integration tool of your offer (easiest)
The easiest way to send plans is to use the integration tool of your offer. The offer contains the terms of your payment plans and can be used multiple times to save time and speed up the process.
When ready, click the integration tool link next to the offer. Inside the tool, select "with a link to share" and fill out the description of the plan and the amount due. Then click Generate to create a URL link to paste into an email, webpage, or social media page — this also generates a QR code you can share or print on marketing materials.
When customers click the link or scan the QR code, they're immediately led to Partially checkout.
2: Sending plans from the payment plans section
You can create payment plans from the Payment Plans section of your account. Creating an offer is not required, though this may require you to create an account for the customer.
Note: If you are unable to create an account for the customer and they don't appear in your Customer section, that means they already have a Partially account. You'll need to send the customer a plan from the integration tool of an offer instead. Once they open their first plan with you, their customer profile will automatically be added to your portal, and you'll be able to send them plans from the Payment Plans section going forward.
Steps:
- Go to the Payment Plans section and click New Payment Plan.
- Click New Customer, or select the customer if they already have an account with you.
- Provide the amount due on the plan.
- Provide a description of the plan (optional but recommended).
- Click Continue.
You'll be led to the Create Payment Schedule page, where you can set the payment terms:
- Down payment
- Schedule (frequency and term)
- First payment date
Warning: The first payment date is the payment made after the down payment. If you manually specify the first payment date and the customer does not open the plan before that date, the plan will automatically be canceled.
You can also apply an offer to automatically fill out the form — useful if you use the same terms often.
Once the schedule is set, click Create Payment Schedule at the bottom of the page. On the following page, click Send Plan Request to Customer to email the plan. During the opening process, the customer adds their payment method and signs the contract.
While you wait for the customer to open the plan, the plan status will say pending. The customer can also open this pending plan from their account at partial.ly/customer under Other Payment Plans.
Once the customer opens the plan, you'll receive an email notification and the plan's status will change from "Pending" to "Open."
Open the plan on the customer's behalf
While it's advised to let customers open their own plans, you're welcome to add their payment method and sign the contract on their behalf if that works better for your clientele.
